World news is a series of articles describing international events. Often, World News Now stories contain a combination of serious and offbeat topics. The show’s humor is often based on satire, and many of its covers have become pop-culture images.
In addition to hard news, World News Now also often features stories about supernatural and paranormal events, or focuses on religious and spiritual controversies. Common WWN stories have included reports of the Loch Ness monster, Bigfoot and alleged ghosts of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. The WWN has also reported on mermen and mermaids, including one article that described the capture of a “half human-half mermaid” near Florida. This mermaid, the article said, spoke in a three-dimensional language derived from click languages and hand movements similar to sign language.
Other popular WWN stories have featured shockingly obese people. For example, an early story pictured Roland Gillespie, who at the time was considered to be the world’s fattest man. Other stories involved him being weighed and measured, being sat on by the crew of World News Now, and his attempts to lose weight through the OMAD diet.
World News Now has also been the home of political satire, especially as it pertains to current and past presidents. WWN has reported that the founding fathers were gay and that President Lincoln was insane, among other spoofs. During the Bush administration, WWN alleged that he was stupid and had an affair with Janet Reno.
